Transportation in Samarkand

Poor maintenance and very little investment have led to deterioration in the infrastructure for land transportation after the Soviet era in Uzbekistan. Government investment in airport modernisation started in the early 2000s. Uzbekistan is well connected through rail lines with Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. The part of the Trans-Caspian railroad which connects Amu Darya and Tashkent is the main railway line.
