Every city may be compared to a person; it has its own character and its own mysteries. To get to know it better, visitors have to acquaint themselves with its history, see its monuments and meet its people. The tour gives guests an opportunity to get to know the city of Shakhrisabz - the birthplace of Amir Temur and a city that is called the precious diamond in the architectural crown of Uzbekistan.
Shakhrisabz is one of the oldest cities in the world; according to scientific research, Shakhrisabz is over 2700 years old. In the 4th century B.C., the army of Alexander the Great stopped to rest in Shakhrisabz, known at that time as Kesh. On the territory of Shakhrisabz, Bessus, the satrap of Bactria and the murderer of Darius III of Persia were seized.
Yet the most significant historical value of Shakhrisabz is related to the fact that Amir Temur, the sovereign of the Movarounnahr Empire, was born there. During the 35 years of his rule, the city became the unofficial capital of the empire and played the role of its socio-cultural centre, receiving ambassadors from the countries of Asia and Europe. Shakhrisabz was built by the best architects and artisans from all around Asia , who also built the spectacular Ak-Saray, translated from Persian as the White Palace, Kok-Gumbaz Grand Mosque, Gumbazi Saidan ensemble and Jahangir Mausoleum.
During the tour, guests will visit these remarkable monuments of the 14th century accompanied by a professional guide. At the end of the tour, guests will visit the bazaar of Shakhrisabz, where they can observe masterpieces of Shakhrisabz embroidery. The works of local embroidery experts are worn in countries as far as Canada and Japan.
The tour will end with a delicious lunch at a National House in Shakhrisabz.
